Tullow awards oil and gas scholarships

Tullow Oil Uganda last week awarded Post Graduate Scholarships in Oil and Gas studies to four Ugandans who begin their courses this month. The awards follow Tullow Oil’s announcement in July that it would offer six scholarships but only four applicants successfully met the award requirements.

Allan Kajubi, Godwin Matovu, Sam Kabuye and Rachel Mugabi are the four beneficiaries of the awards this year. The Tullow scholarship scheme was established to build capacity of Ugandan nationals to support and participate in the early phases of oil production. The post-graduate studies focus on disciplines in petroleum geosciences, petroleum geology, structural geology, sedimentology and other petroleum related courses. The four beneficiaries have been accepted by the University of Manchester and will pursue post graduate degrees in the related petroleum courses.

Speaking at the scholarship awards, Tullow Uganda’s General Manager Brian Glover said: “We are proud to be offering this opportunity to young and talented Ugandans who will ultimately participate in a new era of oil production and shape the future of Uganda. We intend to offer the scholarships on an annual basis to provide an opportunity to build capacity of more Ugandans in oil and gas.” The scholarships targeted brilliant but less privileged Ugandan students who cannot afford post-graduate education in oil and gas in leading universities in the UK.
